A
team of over 350 volunteers support the work of the Hospice. They
are involved in every aspect of Hospice life and make a vital
contribution to the operation of the Hospice. You will find volunteers
helping in the wards or washing dishes in the kitchen. Working
in the Garden or helping a family come to terms with the loss of a
loved one.Volunteers are also heavily
involved in the fundraising department, from helping at events or in
one of the charity shops to carrying out the mountains of admin work
that goes with fundraising.
From time to time we have specific voluntary needs,
below are details of the current areas that we need help with.
If you can spare a few hours and are interested in helping then please
contact Leona Cameron, Support Services Manager for a no obligation

Currently we are on the hunt for
the following volunteers |
|
Fundraising administrators
– Will be using computers with MS office suite installed. Must be
accurate, literate and numerate. Should be willing to undertake
mundane tasks, such as stuffing letters, to more interesting roles
such as processing orders, or supporting the administration of
events, with equal dedication. Minimum commitment 4 hours a week,
ideally one or two day(s) a week. |
|
|
Christmas Sales Team
– From Mid October to early December. Two teams of 2/3 volunteers
(at least one who can drive) to take our Christmas Cards and gifts
‘on the road’ to sell in Residential homes (by prior
arrangement). The team would operate one or two days a week
(different days for different teams). Would load stock, then take
to the home and set up a stall. The residents would then buy the
goods direct from the sales team. Would expect a team to be in a
home for about 3hrs at a time and ideally visit two homes a day.
Appointments and permission would be arranged by the hospice in
advance. |
|
|
Collections Coordinator(s)
– A volunteer who will work with our volunteer driver to
coordinate the collection and distribution of stock for shops
etc. Collections will only be available on specific days and
dates to reduce wasted journey times and operate a more cost
effective collection service. The volunteer would need to liaise
with our volunteer driver to agree collections in advance and
programme these within agreed days (e.g. Dalston collection 1st
Tuesday of each month only, North of City, 2nd
Thursday, etc). The volunteer would also telephone the donor to
check what is being offered. He/She will also be responsible for
arranging disposal of unwanted/unsold stock. This post needs a
fair commitment from a suitable volunteer who could be flexible
and able to help at least one or two days a week. |
|
|
Collections /Delivery Van Driver
a
second volunteer to help our volunteer driver with
deliveries/collections and general fundraising
duties. To help on the days our volunteer driver is not available
perhaps one or two days a week to suit. Not a Tuesday or Thursday. |
|
|
Laundry Volunteers – Alternate Tuesdays
Part of our housekeeping team, loading machines with dirty
laundry (towels, sheets etc), drying and pressing. Volunteer
should be able to use their own initiative and enjoy being part of
a team. |
|
|
Drivers
-
Using own transport to
collect patients from their homes and bring to the Margaret Dunne
Day Hospice and returning them home again, once day hospice has
ended, Volunteers should have a clean driving licence, a friendly
manner and enjoy being part of a small team. (We will reimburse
fuel expenses). |
|
|

friendly, approachable people to help for a few hours each
Saturday at our shop in Botchergate, Carlisle. The shop is open
Monday to Saturday 10am until 4pm. Duties will involve serving
customers, and sorting and displaying donated goods. |
|
|
Brampton Charity Shop - Saturdays
Volunteers
to serve and advise customers and ensure books are correctly
displayed. A keen interest in books, be able to use own initiative
and enjoy dealing with the general public is essential. |
