Where do you
want to go?

 |
|
A
team of over 390 volunteers support the work of the Hospice. They
are involved in every aspect of Hospice life and make a vital
contribution to the operation of the Hospice. You will find volunteers
helping in the wards or washing dishes in the kitchen. Working
in the Garden or helping a family come to terms with the loss of a
loved one.Volunteers are also heavily
involved in the fundraising department, from helping at events or in
one of the charity shops, picking up donated stock or carrying out the
mountains of admin work that goes with fundraising.
From time to time we have specific voluntary needs,
below are details of the current areas that we need help with.
If you can spare a few hours and are interested in helping then please
contact Leona Cameron, Support Services Manager for a no obligation
chat. Either telephone Leona on 01228 817608 or send Leona an Email by

Trustees
Would you like a part- time job? With no pay? With no
privileges? But with the satisfaction of influencing and
contributing to the development of services at Eden valley
Hospice.
The Hospice, a registered charity and voluntary organisation
providing specialist palliative care for adults, young people and
children within Cumbria, is seeking to recruit new trustees for
the Board. The Board, which meets approximately six times per
year, is responsible for the overall governance of the Hospice.
As well as attending Board meetings, trustees develop specific
interests to ensure hospice services of a high standard are
maintained. Our services are professionally managed and cost
almost £3 million per year to deliver.
We are particularly keen to ensure a diverse Board which reflects
the community we serve. Expressions of interest would be
particularly welcome from those with experience as a carer, or in
management of clinical services for children or adults, law; or
other relevant experience or expertise. Selection will be by
interview with a panel of Board members.
For an application form and information pack contact: Janet
Ferguson, Chief Executive, Tel 01228 817610 or Email:
janet.ferguson@edenvalleyhospice.co.uk. Informal
discussions can be arranged with the Chairman of the Board.

Proud to be a Volunteer |
Ken
Proud has been a volunteer with the Eden Valley Hospice for over two
years. He is one of several volunteers who help in the Hospice Laundry.
Making sure that all the sheets, towels and various other items are
freshly washed and pressed.
Wednesdays and Saturdays are the days that Ken takes charge and he likes
to ensure that everything is laundered before he goes home, ‘I like to
go away from here and know everything is done’ says Ken with pride.
Ken had worked as a bus driver for many years and really enjoyed meeting
and talking to people, building up a good rapport with his customers.
When Ken is in the Hospice the door to the laundry room is kept open and
nurses, patients, staff and families often pop in and have a word with
him.
Music plays a big part in Ken’s life varying from opera to Cher and he
always has something playing in the background whilst he works, often
lending tapes to patients.
Ken is very much a member of the Hospice family and regularly attends
volunteer events and meetings. He has found benefits to his own health
and is happy to say ‘since coming here, I am a more relaxed person. I
love it here’.
Everyone at the Hospice values the contribution of time that Ken and all
the other volunteers make to help run the Hospice.
I will leave the final word to Ken
‘It is a happy place – when you walk through those doors, it’s lovely.
No comparison’
